I think the reason that trend lasted so long (at least Aaron Carter to Justin Beiber, maybe longer) is that they can sing about relationships without any of the stuff that makes them complicated to navigate, like responsibility, sex, or even the basic logistical difficulty of making someone a part of your life (which I guess their parents handle for them).

I actually sort of like that aesthetic, but essentially none of the actual music, which is probably just a quirk of taste.
